Music Was My First Art

In the performance Music was My First Art annette hollywood takes on the role of a solo entertainer. The evening-filling program presents the relationship and the mutual impacts of music and art in the life and work of the artist using select performances and video works, but not without ironic exaggeration. For example, a passage from the six-hour performance The Praeludium by Bach (1997) is presented in which annette hollywood plays the only piece she knows dilettantishly on a small toy keyboard in all 528 possible sound combinations the instrument offers. In the performance Music was My First Art, the audience is repeatedly given an opportunity to participate, as in the guessing game of Artist Name Rings or in numerous musical numbers. Precisely due to her dilettantism, the threshold between the audience and the artist is abolished. A space opens for joint passionate and uninhibited enjoying of music with the climax in the final Art Karaoke.
