Sorry Curator

Sorry Curator, I never meant to hurt you, I never meant to make you cry but tonight I’m cleaning out my concept.

In the video Sorry Curator, annette hollywood stages a hip hop battle between an artist and a curator in which she plays both roles herself. Using the language of rap, various expectations placed on art and the art system are formulated. By premiering the video in the solo show Sorry Curator at no gallery, a space founded especially for this purpose, annette hollywood chooses a path towards independence. Together with works from the series Kunst im Zeitalter ihrer weltweiten Käuflichkeit, the presentation of Sorry Curator at no gallery explores the circumstances and conditions of holding an exhibition. And yet the gallery space, located in a residential building in Berlin Kreuzberg, is far from being a perfect White Cube. In the exhibition, the work Big Artist Is Watching You deals with exhibition and display as such, reversing the relationship between artist, artwork, and audience, while Umzingelt—a fragile construction of T-shirts on canvas frames—stages the mutual dependencies between agents in the art system.
