This three-part installation conceived for Neues Museum Weimar deals with the artist Regina Zirkowski from the early evening soap opera Marienhof broadcast by the German public television station ARD (1992–2011). The video installation studies the media staging of this fictional artist and compares it to reality. In the montage of the video projection Darf ich vorstellen, die Künstlerin [Allow Me to Present the Artist], a staged exhibition opening is revealed as unrealistic and combined with alternative variants. The video Im Atelier [In the Studio], which is projected onto a canvas placed on an easel, contrasts the differing work situations of the real and the fictional artist. We first see annette hollywood setting up the installation on her own. By way of a zoom, we are drawn into the studio situation of Regina Zirkowski and see her in her living room happily painting along to classical music or suffering from a crisis of purpose. The third part of the installation consists of the sixteen-part series Aquarelle werden gern gekauft [Watercolors Sell Well]. This adapts the film sequence of a conversation between Regina Zirkowski and her gallerist on the sales of her works.
