The interactive video installation You Are the Star deals with the phenomenon of American star culture and its presence in urban space. Two videos with crowds of people in the streets of New York are projected opposite one another. A projection shows the rear of a group of people that is gathered around something and at the same time forms a barrier. The exhibition audience is unable to see what is happening behind the crowd of people. The second projection shows a frontally filmed group of young people that pays attention to the invisible star above their heads. In the installation, there is a spherical television in the location where the attention of the fans is directed. The television is linked up to a live camera that takes shots of a banner with the slogan “You Are The Star.” When a viewer sticks their head through the opening in the banner in place of the “you,” their faces appear on the screen of the television. The projected fans now seem to be worshipping that person: “You Are the Star.”
